Darling Point Special School caters for children and young people who demonstrate a need for educational programmes and specialist teaching and therapy as a result of an intellectual disability, or in the case of young children, a global developmental delay. The students approved to enrol at this school may also experience impacts arising from autistic spectrum disorder and/or a hearing, physical or vision impairment. Together with support needs arising from their intellectual disability, students may also have high support requirements arising from medical issues such as epilepsy, seizure disorders, diabetes, asthma, allergies, anaphylaxis, various metabolic conditions, and/or mental health issues.

To progress an enquiry for enrolment at Darling Point Special School, parents or guardians are encouraged to contact the principal at the school so that a school visit can be organised, questions answered, and contact facilitated with the guidance officer. The guidance officer and principal will assist parents and guardians to gain a realistic and accurate picture of the services and programs that Darling Point Special School offers and will work alongside parents and guardians to take the necessary time to reach a sound decision about what is best for each student when it comes to school enrolment. Documents will be prepared by the guidance officer in partnership with the parents or guardians, and the prospective student will have the opportunity to spend time in the school so that a sound and valid conclusion can be reached, about whether this is the best school for the student.
